Marketplace leader · Systems thinker · Curious observer
Ideas, encounters, and useful things.
I’m Bonan Zhong. I build marketplaces, adaptive organizations, and leaders—then stay curious about the people, places, and small decisions that reveal how systems really work.
Bonan ZhongFrom medicine to marketplaces, I follow the next meaningful bottleneck.
Every solution creates a new constraint.
The strength that gets a team to one stage can become the thing that holds it back at the next. The work is not simply becoming an expert—it is noticing when the system needs a new question.

A career built by following the next meaningful constraint.
My path has crossed surgery, regenerative medicine, biotechnology, Amazon, and Coupang. The common thread is a habit of questioning assumptions, finding the real bottleneck, and building systems that adapt.
Today, my interests center on AI, marketplaces, consumer platforms, seller services, and organizations that keep learning.
Outside work, I pay attention to culture, travel, nature, books, and the small encounters that make a place—and a life—more legible.

Operation
Grassfire
This is my very first movie made with AI. Using Claude and Higgsfield, I took Operation Grassfire from a blank page through story, script, character design, shot generation, continuity review, and editing. A five-minute plan became a 9-minute-36-second film. Behind roughly 14 days, 76 video generations, and 9,449.7 credits were the decisions and discipline that brought it together.

Four things my first AI film taught me
Mechanisms matter more with AI
AI increases the speed and volume of production, but it does not remove the need for discipline. Explicit standards, clear constraints, and immediate review are essential. Without them, faster generation simply produces more inconsistency.
Quality failures compound
An early defect rarely stays isolated. Problems in the concept, script, character design, or visual continuity become increasingly difficult and expensive to correct once later work depends on them. Quality must be checked at every stage—not only at the end.
Every addition has a cost
The original plan was a five-minute film. It became 9 minutes and 36 seconds. Every new scene introduced more than runtime: it required additional assets, continuity, sound, transitions, revisions, and opportunities for failure. Creative ambition needs an explicit complexity budget.
Human judgment is the integration layer
AI generated many of the assets. It did not decide what belonged in the film. Selecting, rejecting, sequencing, reconciling, and refining those outputs required human judgment. The final work emerged from those decisions—not from generation alone.
A Note from Bonan
One thoughtful note, about once a week.
Marketplace ideas, revealing encounters, and useful things—written in English or Chinese, whichever fits the thought best. Usually a five-minute read.
