The Coolest Buddha I've Ever Met

The Coolest Buddha I've Ever Met

A friend flew in to visit from Xicun this weekend, so we wandered around Seoul with no real plan.

Somehow, we ended up at what looked like a very serious International Buddhism Expo.

My expectations were simple:

Incense.

Prayer beads.

A little wisdom about inner peace.

Instead...

there was a line stretching hundreds of meters.

And most of the people waiting?

Young Koreans.

We looked at each other.

"Something isn't adding up."

The moment we walked inside, I realized my imagination had been far too limited.

Apparently...

Buddha can wear a tailored suit.

(And somehow pull it off.)

Monks can dance.

(Not quite K-pop idols... but honestly, just as entertaining.)

And someone was selling "INNER PEACE" T-shirts for ₩8,000.

I almost bought one.

For a brief moment I wondered if I'd accidentally walked into a Buddha-themed pop-up festival instead of a religious exhibition.

One thing became clear.

Korean exhibitions never follow the script.

But somehow...

they almost never miss aesthetically.

The entire place felt joyful.

Not forced happiness.

The kind that naturally shows up on people's faces.

It made me realize something.

Maybe spiritual practice isn't about escaping the world.

Maybe it's about learning how to enjoy living in it a little more.

K-pop competes on the stage.

B-pop competes for inner peace.
